About Permits

Film & Photo Shoot Permits

A permit is required for all film, video and photo shoots on Randall’s Island. For permit information, please click here to view our Film and Photography Fact Sheet. Many shoots will also require a permit from the Mayor’s Office of Film, Television & Broadcasting, a certificate of insurance, a production fee and other documentation. Small Events: 20-100 attendees

Events with 20-100 attendees require a special event permit from the NYC Parks. An application and a $25 non-refundable fee must be submitted 21-30 days in advance. Large Events: 100-500 attendees

Events with 101-500 attendees require a special event permit from NYC Parks and for notice to be provided to RIPA at [email protected] or 212-860-1899. The NYC Parks’ application and a $25 non-refundable fee must be submitted 21-30 days in advance. Some events require a refundable security bond and a certificate of insurance together with the broker certification form. You will be contacted once your application has been reviewed.

Major Events: 500+ attendees

For events such as festivals, concerts, fundraising runs and other major events, a detailed proposal will be required. Such major events require, among other things, a refundable security bond, a certificate of insurance together with the broker certification form, a concession fee, a detailed site plan and other permits from NYC and/or NYS agencies, as required. Major events proposals should be sent to [email protected]. You will be contacted once your proposal is reviewed.
